Sale or return jewellery in Horsham

We sell your piece in our shop, you collect the proceeds

If you’ve got jewellery you want to sell but don’t want a trade price for it, sale or return is worth considering. You leave your piece with us, we sell it on your behalf to one of our customers at a retail price, and when it goes you get the agreed amount. If it hasn’t sold by the end of the agreed period, you come and collect it.

It suits people who have something decent and would rather wait for the right buyer than take the first offer.

How it works

Bring your piece in and we’ll look at it together. We’ll agree a selling price – realistic for the current market, and one that makes the wait worthwhile for you. We’ll agree a timeframe and the terms before anything is signed.

Your piece goes into the shop properly displayed and described. We treat it the same way we’d treat anything we own, not stuck in a corner hoping someone notices it.

When it sells, we’ll get in touch and settle up.

What we accept

We’re selective about what we take on sale or return. It works when the piece is something our customers would actually want, good quality, interesting, well-made, in decent condition. We don’t take everything on that basis.

Things that tend to do well: quality gold and silver jewellery, diamond rings and earrings, pieces with good design or some history behind them, anything with hallmarks or paperwork. If you’re not sure whether yours qualifies, bring it in and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Sale or return versus selling outright

Selling to a dealer means taking a trade price – the dealer needs to make a margin, so the figure is lower than retail. Sale or return puts your piece on at a retail price, which is usually meaningfully higher. The difference is that you might wait a few weeks or a few months for the right buyer.

If you need cash now, outright sale is probably the right call. If you can wait and want a better return, this is worth thinking about.

If it doesn't sell

At the end of the agreed period, if the piece hasn’t gone, we’ll contact you to arrange collection. You won’t be charged for an unsold item. We’ll also tell you honestly whether a price adjustment might help, or whether we think the timing just isn’t right.

Common questions

Is my piece insured while it’s with you?
It’s held securely in the shop. Talk to us about insurance when we take it in – we’ll go through what’s covered.

Can I take it back early
Yes, subject to the terms of the agreement. Come in and we’ll sort it.

How long does it usually take to sell?
Depends entirely on the piece and the market. Something popular in good condition can go fast. We’ll give you realistic expectations when we agree terms, not an optimistic guess to get you to leave it with us.

What’s the commission?
We’ll agree that with you based on the piece and what we think we can achieve. Nothing is charged for an item that doesn’t sell.
