Your personal jeweller in Horsham
One shop. Twenty years. Most things covered
Most jewellers do one thing. Sakakini on the Carfax has been doing most of them for over twenty years.
We’re a family-run independent. The person you talk to knows the stock, makes the decisions, and in most cases does the work. There’s no referral to a manager, no head office policy, no watching your piece disappear into a courier box. If you need something made, repaired, valued, bought, sold or borrowed against, you’re in the right place.
Here’s what we do. Each service has its own page with the full detail.
Bespoke jewellery
Most jewellery is made to appeal to as many people as possible. That’s why so much of it looks the same. A bespoke piece is the opposite – designed around you, your taste, and the person who’ll wear it.
At Sakakini we design and make jewellery from scratch. Engagement rings are the most common request, and it makes sense – there’s no piece of jewellery more personal, and getting it right matters. We also make wedding rings to order and one-off pieces when someone has something specific in mind that they’ve never been able to find off the shelf.
You don’t need to arrive with a finished brief. Some customers come in with a sketch or a photo. Some come in with a stone they’ve inherited and nothing else. Some come in with a feeling and no words for it yet. All of those work. The conversation is how we get to the design – we ask the right questions, go through the options for metal, stones and style, and agree something we’re both happy with before any work starts.
If something isn’t achievable, we’ll say so. If there’s a smarter way to get to what you want, we’ll suggest it. Find out more about bespoke jewellery.
Jewellery repairs
Ring resizing, stone resetting, chain and clasp repairs, ultrasonic cleaning – all done in-house at Sakakini on the Carfax. Most straightforward jobs are back the same day or within a few days. There’s no sending your piece off to a service centre and waiting weeks for it to come back.
When you bring something in, you talk to the people actually doing the work. We’ll look at it, tell you what’s involved and what it costs, and you decide whether to go ahead. If it’s not worth repairing, we’ll say so. If we can’t help, we’ll tell you that too. Either way, the assessment costs nothing. Find out more about jewellery repairs.
Watch repairs
Watch stopped? Needs a battery, a new strap, or hasn’t been serviced in a while? We handle watch battery and strap replacements in-house at Sakakini on the Carfax.
Major repairs get outsourced to a local independent watch maker in Horsham who will look over the watch and give an estimate as to the price of the repair on a no-obligation basis.
Bring it in. We’ll look at it, tell you what’s needed and what it costs, and you decide whether to go ahead. Find out more about our watch repairs service.
Jewellery valuations
Insurance and probate valuations with written certificates accepted by insurers and solicitors. We assess each piece properly – metal, stones, hallmarks, condition, current market – and we explain the figure we’ve arrived at rather than just handing you a number on a piece of paper.
Insurance valuations establish replacement value, which is usually higher than what you paid or what you’d get if you sold. Probate valuations are based on open market value at the date of death – a different figure, calculated differently. We handle both, and we’ll tell you upfront which you need and why. If your jewellery hasn’t been valued for a few years, it’s probably worth refreshing – metal and stone prices have moved more than most people realise. Find out more about jewellery valuations.
Buying and selling gold and silver
We buy gold and silver – jewellery, coins, scrap metal, inherited pieces you’re not sure what to do with – at prices based on the live metal market. Bring it in and we’ll test and weigh it, tell you what it’s worth and why, and make you an offer. If you don’t want to sell, you walk away with your things. The valuation is free and there’s no pressure either way.
We also sell gold and silver, a rotating selection of items and coins depending on what’s come through the door. Sovereigns, Britannias, older pre-decimal pieces and more. If you’re looking for something specific, it’s worth calling to ask what’s currently available. Find out more about buying and selling gold and silver.
Pawnbroking
Short-term loans secured against jewellery, watches and precious metals. You bring in the item, we assess it, agree a loan amount and a period, typically six months — and you leave with cash the same day. No credit check, no effect on your credit record, no complicated application process.
Repay the loan plus the agreed interest within the period and you get your item back. If you need more time, come in before it expires and we’ll discuss extending. If you decide not to repay, the item is sold to recover the loan and that’s the end of it — no debt, no collections, nothing further owed. We’re FCA regulated and the terms are set out clearly in writing before anything is agreed. Find out more about pawnbroking.
Sale or return
Want a retail price rather than a trade offer? Sale or return is the alternative to selling outright. You leave your piece with us, we display and sell it in the shop on your behalf, and when it goes you receive the agreed amount. You set the asking price, we’ll advise on what’s realistic for the current market and we agree a timeframe before anything is signed.
If the piece hasn’t sold by the end of that period, you come and collect it. No charge for an unsold item, no pressure to drop the price. If we think an adjustment might help it move, we’ll say so – but the decision is yours. Find out more about sale or return.
Pre-loved jewellery
A changing collection of rings, necklaces, bracelets, watches and earrings — all checked, cleaned and polished before going on display. Every piece has been examined for condition, with clasps, claws and links inspected and any issues addressed before it’s offered for sale. Priced up to 75% below original retail, because the depreciation has already happened and the price should reflect that.
The collection comes from private sellers, estate pieces and part-exchanges, so it turns over constantly. What’s here this week may be gone next. If you’re looking for something specific — a particular style, stone or metal — it’s worth calling or coming in regularly to see what’s there. Find out more about pre-loved jewellery.
